Whitney Houston Dead at 48
The world is reeling from the news of Whitney Houston’s unexpected death. As celebrities from all over gather for the Grammy Awards, a dark cloud will now hang over the celebration.
Houston had been spotted earlier Saturday night in the bar of the Beverly Hilton, and according to witnesses and friends, she "seemed fine". About 3AM she was found by one of her entourage unconscious in the bath tub in her suite. Paramedics were called and performed CPR for about 20 minutes before she was pronounced dead.
Whitney will be remembered as an incredibly gifted artist. Her voice was unmatched, and she had a string of awards over her career. In fact, Houston holds the honour for having won more awards than any other female artist living. Her accolades included six Grammys, two Emmys, 30 Billboard Music Awards and 22 American Music Awards. According to The Guinness Book of World Records, Houston accumulated a total of 412 awards, up to the year 2010.
In 1986, Whitney was only 23 years old when she dazzled Toronto. Nearly 25,000 fans gathered at Toronto’s Canadian National Exhibition grounds to hear the star performer.
Whitney was known to have been addicted to drugs at one time, although there has been no mention of any drugs being involved in her death as of yet.
While no foul play is suspected, Whitney Houston’s death is being investigated. Next of kin have been notified. Houston had an 18 year old daughter.
