David Ragan Finally Secures Ride
David Ragan has finally secured a ride for the 2012 season with Front Row Motorsports owned by Bob Jenkins. Ragan has signed a deal to drive the number 38 Ford Fusion which was occupied last season by David Gilliland. The team is a minor affiliate of Ragan’s former team Roush Fenway Racing.
Ragan spent the last 5 seasons driving the number 6 car in the Sprint Cup Series for Roush Fenway Racing. He has one win which came last season at the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona in July. Ragan also drove part time for Roush Fenway Racing in the second-tier Nationwide Series earning 2 wins which came at Talladega and Bristol in 2009, and was named that series Rookie of the Year in 2007 when it was still called the Busch Series.
The release from Roush Fenway came after a lackluster past few seasons and also due to the fact that Ragan’s primary sponsor UPS was moving to Carl Edwards number 99 car to be split with Aflac. With 3 top-tier salaries for Edwards, Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle and also only having full sponsorship for Biffle’s number 16 car, and with up-and-coming drivers like 2011 Daytona 500 Champion Trevor Bayne and 2011 Nationwide series Champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr., it became clear that David Ragan was the odd man out. Ragan released the following statement following his signing with Front Row Motorsports. “ If I can go there and help them improve their program 10-15 spots and maybe try to get them their first win as a team, that would be huge.”
