Nearly 500,000 Ford Vehicles Recalled
Ford announced yesterday that they are voluntarily recalling nearly 500,000 SUVs and minivans because of a defect that could caus ethe vehicle to suddenly lose power and stall, resulting in a crash.
The recall effects 206,000 year 2004-2005 FORD/ FREESTAR and year 2004-2005 MERCURY/ MONTEREY vehicles.
There has been a defect discovered in the transmission’s Image:© Marius Hainal | Dreamstime.com torque converter. Ford states in their recall notice that the torque converter output shaft may fail.
Ford has plans to notify all owners personally, and authorized dealers for Ford will be fixing the problem at no cost to the consumer. It is anticipated that the recall will begin starting in the second quarter of the year 2012.

Ford has also recalled another 145,000 Ford Escape SUVs that were manufactured in years 2001 and 2002. The manufacturer has stated that there is a risk of brake fluid leakage. This potential for leakage could result in electrical wiring corrosion, and go on to cause a fire.
The company has said that dealers will fix these issues free of charge as well.
