Lars Eller Has Career Night
On Wednesday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Lars Eller had a 4-goal outburst and an assist in a game against the Winnipeg Jets. The last time these 2 teams met was on December 22nd at the MTS Center in Winnipeg, a game the Jets won easily 4-0 and Eller was a healthy scratch. The 22- year-old Eller now has 7 goals this season to go with 8 assists.
Lars Eller is more well known for his defensive game, his penalty-killing talents and his quick feet, all of which have helped the Canadiens rank 2nd in penalty killing in the NHL. On this night however, every time Eller touched the puck something positive happened for the Habs.
Eller’s first goal of the night came in the first period on a Winnipeg giveaway just 43 seconds after the Habs tied the game at 1-1 on a goal from Defenceman Josh Georges. Nothing in the 2nd period for Eller, and then a spectacular third period in which he scored 3 times including on a penalty shot against a cold Chris Mason who came in relief of starting goalie Ondrej Pavlec. The Habs won the game 7-3, only their second home win in their last 8 home games. If the Habs are to make the playoffs they will need more games like this one.
At the end of the game, when he was announced as the game’s number one star, as selected by the fans, the 22-year-old Eller stayed on the ice for over 2 minutes to pump up the crowd and to salute the Habs faithful who remained in their seats while he stayed on the ice.
