Kurt Busch Fired from Penske
Former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion Kurt Busch and Penske racing have agreed to part ways. This comes 2 weeks after the end of the 2011 season in which Kurt finished 11th in the 12-man Chase for the Sprint Cup, only one position above his younger brother Kyle.
Kurt Busch won 4 races this season; however, at times was verbally abusive on the in-car radio to his crew chief Steve Addington and their over the wall crew. Kurt also at times was reported to be rude to members of the media. In one case he had to be restrained by his crew for attempting to go after a NASCAR.com writer at the end of the Richmond race in September. Then shortly after, in the media center, he ripped a reporter’s notes for asking a question about a quote he thought he didn’t say.
The boiling point came during the season finale at Homestead when, after blowing the transmission early in the race, his in-car camera caught him giving the finger to a car belonging to First Lady Michelle Obama, and then he agreed to an interview with the well-respected Dr. Jerry Punch of ESPN, but was caught by a fan on video arguing and cursing at Punch for not filming the interview live and eventually Punch said never mind and Busch walked away.
Kurt Busch has admitted he is the problem and is now working with a sports psychologist in order to try to resolve his anger management issues. For now, however, Kurt Busch is out of the best ride he ever had.
